Blois

Do you want to grow as a disciple and help others to step out in faith? Do you share our conviction that God hasn’t given up on secular Europe? Are you ready to get creative so that French people from all walks of life can experience the body of Christ in a way they can relate to? If so, then come and be part of a new church-plant in the historic town of Blois! (Loire valley) The new project started officially in September 2016 and is led by Peter & Rachel Calvert. The team are meeting regularly in small groups, building relationships and inviting others in to discover Jesus. They rent premises in the town centre which are used as an art gallery and a week-day place of prayer. This could be an ideal opportunity for a Year Abroad student who would like to gain experience of being part of a church plant in its early stages, with the chance to discover a variety of ministry opportunities. If you’re a UK student and are interested in this Year Abroad opportunity, please contact Paul Cooke (paulcooke@francemission.org) for an application form.

Châteauroux

The Église Protestante Évangélique de Châteauroux is pleased to welcome committed Christians interested in working in France for a short "taster" experience of ministry in the French context, lasting perhaps two or three weeks. Candidates should be well-motivated, able to work without undue supervision and have at least a reasonable level of French. The church can offer experience of a fairly typical evangelical church in the central region of France, based in the pleasant small town of Châteauroux, but which also has a strategy for reaching out more widely into the towns and villages of the surrounding Département of the Indre. If you’re a UK student and are interested in this Year Abroad opportunity, please contact Paul Cooke (paulcooke@francemission.org) for an application form.

Taverny is a Parisian suburb located about 20km north-west of the capital. Perspectives planted a church there in 2006 and this church has now started planting in neighbouring suburbs, including Cormeilles-en-Parisis. The Cormeilles plant has a successful gospel choir as one of its main outreach activities and there would be scope for involvement in this. L' Abri à Suvigny

L' Abri à Suvigny is a Northumbria Community House of Christian Retreat and hospitality in Southern Normandy. An internship here would probably suit one or more students over a period which included either Easter or summer, as this is when the Community has most visitors. NCIF’s life is set within the monastic rhythm of prayer, work, space for God, and socialisation. If you’re a UK student and are interested in this Year Abroad opportunity, please contact Paul Cooke (paulcooke@francemission.org) for an application form.

L'Église de la Brie

The Église de la Brie has a particular emphasis on children's and family work as part of its outreach. The church has experienced strong growth since starting a few years ago and is now blessed with wonderful facilities. The team has a particular need for people with secretarial skills, for technicians, actors, interns, writers, & computer graphics specialists. There is also a need for au-pairs (male or female) able to come and support church families from May to July. While the ability to speak French would be helpful, it would not be absolutely essential. If you’re a UK student and are interested in this Year Abroad opportunity, please contact Paul Cooke (paulcooke@francemission.org) for an application form.

Le Rivage, Aix-les-Bains

Aix-les-Bains is a church plant that started in January 2014. The project emphasises bold, energetic discipleship. New team members will quickly find themselves challenged in terms of serving and sharing their faith. The church can offer opportunities relating to children's work, secretarial work, communications, and discipling young believers. People willing to provide au-pair services are also needed to help team members who have young children. Basic French language skills are desirable. A professional teacher of French as a foreign language is available in the church to help develop French-language competency, but as this is the person's livelihood, she needs to charge for this service. If you’re a UK student and are interested in this Year Abroad opportunity, please contact Paul Cooke (paulcooke@francemission.org) for an application form.

Paris-Cardinet

Would you like to serve in a real Parisian Church? France Mission has a small church in the 17th arrondissement (L’Église Protestante Évangélique de Paris Cardinet). We have an intergenerational congregation and would welcome short-term students to join in our church life. Apart from the Sunday morning worship service, there is an evening service aimed mainly at young professionals, and a weekly Bible Study. We also have close contact with the local Christian Union.

The Taverny congregation is about 50 strong and is made up mostly of young families with an active youth group. The church works with the Red Cross and an old people's home supporting local people. The church seeks to multiply discipleship through building strong personal relationships. There will be opportunities to be involved in children's/youth work, small-group work, social outreach programmes, teaching, and the possibility of a missionary trip to India. Tours

The Perspectives church in Tours would be happy to integrate Year Abroad students as part of their activities in various ways. In addition to the usual church ministries, there would be the opportunity to participate in a local charity where the pastor also volunteers. Students would need to have enough French to be able to communicate and to have a reasonably outgoing personality. Tours is a nice city with plenty of things going on for students through Navigators, GBU and PULSE. Students would need to find their own accommodation.
