Auray: conviviality and solidarity

Pastor Nicolas Engel reports on this Breton church plant

The core team is made up of 11 adults (with about the same number of dependent children). Our vision is summed up in the following slogan: “Live church. Together. Every day.” With the Lord’s help, our aim is therefore to combat consumerism (Live church), individualism (Together), and reductionism (Every day).

Property prices in Auray rose by a third during the pandemic. So, although purchasing our own premises was a viable goal back in2017, this no longer seems feasible at present. However, we are blessed with rented space that provides a good base for two main ways to connect with the town:

·        Art exhibitions: Auray was one of the places given the status of “town of art and history” by the Ministry of Culture. We participate in this cultural landscape by organising exhibitions by Christian artists, such as the painter Faby.

·        Homelessness outreach: every week we go out and meet the homeless and cook for them. These times of connection are a blessing for the whole church community.

On Sundays, we meet together to sing, pray, receive from God’s Word, celebrate communion etc. Classic ingredients that we try and put together in creative ways that encourage fellowship and participation.

Please pray that “[our] love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that [we] may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ” (Philippians 1.9-10) and that “God may make [us] worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition [our] every desire for goodness and [our] every deed prompted by faith” (2 Thessalonians 1.11).

And, if you’re visiting southern Brittany, please come and visit us!
